Donating to General or Named Scholarships
The Stillman Foundation is a 501 (c)(3) not-for-profit organization which relies heavily on donations from donors, individuals, and organizations to help fund our educational mission. General Named Endowed Scholarship program includes awards of varying amounts of named scholarship funds established by various donors. These traditionally competitive awards consider GPA, income, leadership, etc. Tax deductible donations can be made to the Foundation’s General Fund or to specific Endowed Named Scholarships.
Named Scholarship Fund
Contributions may also be made to specific Endowed Named Scholarships. Currently, there are (how many?) named scholarships. These named scholarships are endowed funds, and a contribution will add to the principal balance of that scholarship. The earnings on these scholarships are used to fund each named scholarship award on an annual basis.
The Foundation encourages support of the University’s scholarship programs, and accepts commitments in three categories.
- Gifts of any amount to support established scholarships
- Gifts of at least $25,000 to create a named current-use scholarship*
- Gifts of at least $50,000 to create a named endowed scholarship**
Creating an Endowed Scholarship
The Foundation requires a minimum commitment of $50,000 to create a named endowed scholarship account. Distributions will begin from the Fund no sooner than 18 months following the attainment of the minimum value of $50,000.
Creating a Named Current-Use Scholarship
Because of their size, named current-use scholarships are considered prestigious. Each carries a donor’s name or a name designated by the donor, and recipients may use the designation on their curriculum vitae. Donors may restrict scholarship recipient selection to:
- Course of study
- Entering or returning students
- Need-based or merit
- Geographic area
General Scholarship Fund
Contributions to the General Fund come from multiple sources, including club donations, individual and corporate donations, and memorial donations. The General Fund is used to pay for many scholarship awards on an annual basis and is the major source of funding for the organization.
When you make your contribution, please indicate whether it is a donation to the Foundation’s General Fund or to a specific Endowed Named Scholarship.
